Academic Synergy between the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya and UIN Maliki in the Development of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science

Malang – The Master’s Program in Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FK UB), welcomed a benchmarking visit from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, on Friday, October 17, 2025. The activity was held at Classroom 2, 6th Floor of the Professional Education Building (GPP), FK UB, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB.

The benchmarking activity was conducted to support the plan to establish a Master’s Program in Biomedical Science at FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Through this visit, FKIK UIN Maliki Malang carried out a study and learning process related to governance, management, and academic services that have been implemented by the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science at FK UB, as one of the programs with extensive experience in the biomedical field.

Participants in the activity consisted of faculty leaders and members of the proposing team for the establishment of the study program from FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, including the Dean of FKIK, the Head of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science, Heads of Study Programs, and administrative staff. Meanwhile, representatives from FK UB as the host institution included the Head of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science, the Academic Coordinator, the Head of the Department of Medicine, members of the Curriculum Team and the Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) Team, as well as administrative staff.

The series of events began with an opening session, followed by remarks from the Head of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science at FK UB and a representative of FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The main session featured a presentation on the profile and governance system of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science at FK UB, which was then continued with a discussion and question-and-answer session focusing on academic governance, learning methods, and graduation standards. The event concluded with the exchange of tokens of appreciation and a group photo session.

The results of the benchmarking activity indicated that the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science at FK UB has implemented an effective governance system, supported by a clear organizational structure, an integrated academic information system, and strong coordination across units. In addition, the implementation of an outcome-based curriculum (learning outcomes), digital-based academic administrative services, support for student research and publications, as well as the availability of research facilities and infrastructure were key points that attracted significant attention from the FKIK UIN Maliki Malang delegation.

Through this activity, FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang obtained various strategic inputs and recommendations to be used as references in preparing the proposal documents for the establishment of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Science. In the future, both institutions are expected to continue strengthening academic cooperation and networking, particularly in the development of education and research in the field of Biomedical Science.

This benchmarking activity represents an important initial step in strengthening FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang’s commitment to developing an excellent, competitive, and globally competitive postgraduate education program in Biomedical Science.
