Workshop of International Journal Writing

Scientific publication in international journal is essential to support international recognition of Universitas Brawijaya. Higher publication rate indicate higher rating of university, especially in regard of science development. Scientific publication in international journal is also one of the main policies applied to both lecturer and student in Universitas Brawijaya although it is still considered as lacking, especially publication in reputable journal. PMIB identified that not all lecturer and student is well-trained in scientific writing, thus may prevent them to publish their research. Based in this fact, PMIB decided to initiate workshop in scientific writing, especially for international journal writing. The workshop is held for three days: 27 – 29 November 2015.

This event mainly aimed to gather lecturer and student of PMIB who have research (whether thesis, dissertation or other research form) and already started their scientific writing process. PMIB invited Prof. Roger Ian Price Ph.D from Department of Medical Technology & Physics Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) Hospital Avenue, Nedlands Western Australia as mentor, with five facilitators from PMIB. Prof. Price instilled the importance of scientific publication, tips and tricks in writing, and how to choose journal for publication. The participants must send their manuscript to Prof. Price for initial review prior to the event, and they continue the mentoring process during workshop. Prof. Price and appointed facilitators thoroughly assist the participants until the last day to ensure that the writing process was improved significantly. This is one of some efforts intended to provide assistance in scientific publication. The effort was rewarded since 4 of 9 participants have successfully published their manuscript in Scopus-indexed journals. This event was expected to raise number of scientific publication in UB, as well as to raise confidence in both lecturer and student especially of PMIB to publish their research in reputable journal.
